Tips: How to depot your NARS

You heard it. It's all about NARS today. Everyone of us love NARS but I highly suggest that they gonna do something about their rubbery packaging. Because it practically melts and become really sticky and dirty due to our humid/hot climax in my country (practically in South East Asia). I got so mad and angry everytime I picked up the sticky packaging that I actually put it aside and not using them for a while.

My initial plan was to clean the packaging and yes, it turns out well. (I'll blog about how to clean it soon). Unfortunely, my butter fingers decided to kill my NARS and broke it of into two pieces. Oh yes, if you followed me in Instagram you'll see my horrified picture. I left no choice to fix it and depot them.

I'm glad that I've gotten my Z-palette last month from Shopping District. Now, it shall be my new home for my NARS. This depotting method will involved with heat due to the pot size and thick packaging. It's better to use heat for a bigger pan to avoid crack. I find this works very well for me which I would like to share with you.

There’s a few things you’ll need:

  • hair dryer/ flat iron or hair straightener/ candle (your preference)
  • pointed metal tool
  • new palette (I'm using Z-palette)
  • rubbing alcohol
  • Q-tip or tissue
Now let's get it started!

STEP 1:
If you realized, NARS packaging (either bronzer, blusher or eyeshadow) has a slight gap in between the thick rubber grip and the plastic tray. Start finding the groove and carefully wiggle your pointed metal tool back and forth until the pan 'pops' out of the rubber packaging.

STEP 2:
Some may just leave the plastic tray as it is but i think it took a bit space so I decided to remove it from the plastic tray.

STEP 3:
Placed and blowed the hair dryer (high and strong blow) directly towards the back of the plastic tray for about 20-30 seconds. The heat will loosen the glue.

PS: I don't use flat iron or candle because I personally find it too dangerous, just in case if I burn my hand or even my house. Lol!

STEP 4:
Be extra careful because the plastic tray will be hot. Insert your pointed metal tool into the gap between the plastic tray and the metal pan, lift out the pan.

Your end result should be like this!

Situation:
- If you couldn't lift off the pan, try to heat another round.
- If nothing still happened, add a few drops of rubbing alcohol between the plastic tray and the metal pan. The alcohol will help to dissolve some of the glue.

STEP 5:
Use your q-tip or tissue with some rubbing alcohol and clean of the bottom of the metal pan.

STEP 6:
Now label your pan with a permanent marker (couldn't find my marker though). I labelled mine on the z-palette metal sticker.

Voila!!! You officially get a new home for your NARS!

Always remember to use your least favorite as a start else you'll end up like my Laguna bronzer looking half-shattered. Though it can always be fixed by rubbing alcohol. ^_^

Did you noticed that I'd actually depotted my favorite Urban Decay Naked Palette into my Z-palette? Depotting my Naked palette is so much easier than my NARS which I shall share with you how to do it next time.

If you had any better tips on depotting your makeup, please feel free to share with me!

I'm very happy depotting my favorite eyeshadows, blushers and bronzer in one palette now. It's so much easier to bring for travel. You should try that. No regrets!

Cynthia Loh said...

Me too. So, I'm aiming to get a smaller z-palette now.

@Jae: You may purchase rubbing alcohol from Watsons or Guardian. They do sell it at about RM6, if I'm not mistaken.

Actually I wouldn't dare to depot any of my eyeshadows/blushers, because i'm afraid they will shatter lol (coz i'm clumsy like that). It's a good idea though, especially for travelling. :D

I love to depot my heavier, bulkier items. I also depotted NAKED palette. I, too, find that heat works best for depotting. Great tutorial!

What a great idea! Though there's a crack for the bronzer. I still like the small palette though. I'm not a fan of big palettes lol

Nice idea but is more useful when we have to go for some occasions far away with our all makeup kit. Its the best idea to save space of your bag :) . Well i am happy with my small palette as i prefer some very selective colors.
